NCN OPUS 29 project entitled: “CTC-on-CAM: Functional profiling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in lung cancer using the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model”

Scientific profile of the candidate – Post-doc

Specific Requirements

  1. PhD degree in life sciences/biomedical sciences (biology, biotechnology, medical sciences, pharmacy, bioengineering or related), obtained in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project. The earliest permissible date for obtaining a doctoral degree is 1 January 2014. For researchers with multiple PhDs, the date of the first PhD award is deemed the reference date. The extension may be applied in accordance with the rules of the National Science Centre, Poland.

Additionally, the candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the following conditions:

  • they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation;
  • their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree.
  1. Publication record (including first authorship of at least one published original paper – preferred) and experience in research in the field of advanced techniques in molecular biology and/or experimental oncology.
  2. Ability to work independently as well as in a group.
  3. Practical experience in cell culture and molecular/cellular biology techniques (e.g., RT-qPCR/qPCR, nucleic acid/protein extraction, IF/IHC, protein-based assays as applicable).
  4. Experience with patient-derived material, CTC-related research, 3D tumour models, 3D bioprinting or CAM model will be appreciated.
  5. Ability to communicate fluently in English (written and spoken).
  6. Strong motivation to work and solve scientific problems, creativity, and analytical thinking.
  7. Experience in preparing documentation for Bioethics Committee approval/amendments and coordinating formal documentation flow with a clinical partner will be appreciated.

The successful candidate for the postdoctoral position shall, for the full term of their employment within the project, be obligated to maintain compliance with the following conditions:

  • when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no remuneration from the funds allocated as direct costs under research projects funded in the National Science Centre calls;
  • when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with a registered office outside of Poland;
  • when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no pension under the social insurance scheme.

Task description

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing documentation for the Bioethics Committee (applications, amendments, supporting documents) in coordination with the PI and the clinical partner;

Maintaining regular communication with the collaborating clinic/clinical partner (sample logistics, documentation flow, alignment of procedures, scheduling) and ensuring compliance with agreed protocols;

Planning and performing experiments independently; planning the workflow and participating in the decision-making process;

CTC-related workflows (isolation/processing) and handling of clinically derived material in collaboration with the clinical partner;

Establishing/optimising cell culture and preparing 2D/3D tumour models;

Conducting CAM experiments (implantation, monitoring, sampling);

Performing phenotypic/molecular assays and interpreting results;

Dissemination of the research outputs in project meetings, peer-reviewed journals, and international conferences;

Contribution to the efficient functioning of the lab, including organisational tasks related to the project.

Co-mentoring students / supporting junior group members (as agreed);

Employment conditions

  • Status: full-time employment, 40 hours/week
    • Planned period of contract: 48 months (4 years)
    • Salary/year: 140,000 PLN (gross-gross salary)
    • Position starts on: 01 March 2026 (can be negotiated and adjusted)
