COMPETITION FOR THE POSITION OF DOCTORAL STUDENT IN THE PROJECT First Team (Feng 2021-2027) Foundation for Polish Science

Position Title: Scholarship Holder – PhD Student

Project leader, Dr. Daniel Ziental, announces a recruitment for the position of PhD student in the First Team Feng project funded by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP), titled „Development of biocompatible porphyrinoid derivatives as light-activated plant protection agents.”

Requirements:

  • Completed higher education (fields: pharmacy, forensic and criminal analysis, biotechnology, molecular biology, medical analytics, or other related fields)
  • Knowledge of issues related to the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds and chemical analysis
  • Documented experience in laboratory work, especially familiarity with NMR methods, UV-VIS spectroscopy, HPLC, and related techniques
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) at least at B2 level
  • Availability, ability to work individually and in a team, scientific curiosity, motivation, self-discipline, communicativeness, analytical thinking
  • Fulfillment of conditions regarding the awarding of scholarships according to the FNP regulations: „Regulations on the awarding of scholarships as aid for Project Scholars under Action 2.2. First Team (Feng 2021-2027)” of the Foundation for Polish Science
  • Fulfillment of the recruitment conditions of the PUMS Doctoral School: Doctoral School Recruitment (e.g., minimum GPA of 3.2; minimum points from the evaluation of scientific activity: 4)
  • Documented previous scientific activity (at least one scientific publication or conference presentation)

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting experimental work in the laboratory according to the project’s research plan: from optimization to conducting the experiment, its analysis, and presentation of results. Experiments will mainly include organic synthesis, purification, and full physicochemical and photochemical characterization of macrocyclic compounds, as well as preliminary biological studies related to antimicrobial activity.
  • Participation in team meetings
  • Reporting results to the project leader
  • Preparing scientific publications and participating in scientific conferences
  • Fulfilling study requirements according to the PUMS Doctoral School Regulations: Doctoral School Recruitment (e.g., completing classes according to the schedule, conducting teaching activities up to a maximum of 60 hours per year, preparing a series of scientific publications or submitting a monograph as a doctoral dissertation)

Employment Conditions:

  • Doctoral scholarship for a period of 48 months, amounting to PLN 5,000 gross (approximately PLN 3,700-3,900 for the first two years, and around PLN 4,600 after mid-term evaluation)
  • Planned start: October 1, 2024
  • Location: Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry

Recruitment:
The recruitment process consists of two stages. In the first stage, a qualifying interview will be conducted with the project leader’s team. Selected candidates must then submit the necessary documentation to the PUMS Doctoral School and pass the Doctoral School recruitment according to the regulations (Doctoral School Recruitment).

  • Candidate’s CV with a particular emphasis on previous laboratory experience and scientific achievements (publications, conference participation), information about completed workshops, internships, and professional practices, received awards, distinctions, and scholarships, and participation in scientific circles.
  • Contact details of two people who can provide references
  • Motivation letter
  • Verified information about completed studies and obtained GPA, copy of the higher education diploma
